Description

Alongside the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA), the Graduate Institute Global Health Centre (GHC) and United Nations Foundation (UNF) are co-hosting the annual open briefing, this year titled Critical Perspectives on Multilateralism in Global Health in 2025. Since 2015, this public event has raised the curtain on WHA with a preview of the modalities and relevant topics, including negotiations on the Pandemic Accord, for delegates, non-state actors, the media, and general audiences. This event is being presented virtually and in-person at the Ivan Pictet Auditorium at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

The tenets and precedents that have guided global health practice in the 21st century face significant headwinds in 2025. Yet, global cooperation on health is needed more than ever to meet the complex challenges of today, which are driven by changing population demographics, shifting disease burdens, and increasing risks of health emergencies resulting from conflict, humanitarian crises, and natural disasters. At the 78th World Health Assembly, countries will come together to debate and decide on key health policies in an unpredictable environment that features deepening political rivalries and increasingly limited resources. Will the "spirit of Geneva" prevail?
