Professor Howse will discuss the proposals of the US China Trade Policy Working Group for a way forward on economic relations between the two superpowers.

The Group is led by Harvard economist Dani Rodrik and Jeffrey Lehman, dean of NYU Shanghai, has produced a joint statement signed by 34 additional scholars include 5 Nobel laureates in economics. The statement examines different kinds of policy frictions surrounding trade and economic and industrial stategies, and develops an approach based upon respect for different political and economic systems but the need to address beggar-thy-neighbor policies including through expanded trade remedies.   

Professor Howse is a member of the US China Trade Policy Working Group; he will also address his separate statement on the initiative.
