Chief Correspondent in Switzerland for The Associated Press

The United Nations’ European headquarters in Geneva, along with the many Swiss-based international organisations and businesses, provide a sense of Switzerland as an epicentre of global governance and create a busy flow of international news. John Heilprin will offer insights about the role of journalists reporting on the UN and other international organisations and the intersection of those organisations with governments, diplomacy and business.

John Heilprin has recently covered the World Economic Forum in Davos and international responses to the Arab Spring, including the violence in Syria. Prior to becoming AP’s chief correspondent in Switzerland, Mr Heilprin covered the UN at its New York headquarters and accompanied Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on trips to Asia, Africa and Europe, winning two awards for international coverage and two others for his in-depth reporting on the impacts of climate change.

Before covering the UN, Mr Heilprin reported for seven years on environmental and energy issues, both nationally and internationally, in AP’s Washington bureau. He also worked as a newspaper reporter for various publications around the United States for more than a decade. After his presentation, he will answer questions from students and members of the audience on specific issues related to journalism and world affairs.
