Description
Financialization of the Pharmaceutical Industry: What’s law got to do with it?
Behind every financing relationship is a set of legal agreements holding that partnership in place. In this study, Dena looks at a series of innovative financing mechanisms within the global health space, and by following the money, she looks at how legal regimes link two worlds: the pharmaceutical one and the financial one.
Drawing on methodologies from anthropology and sociology, the study analyzes publicly available financial and legal relationships that have been used to structure existing innovative financing initiatives intended to improve access to medicines in global health: the solidarity levy, advanced market commitments, and the Affordable Medicines Facility for malaria (AMFm). Through her research exploration, she highlights the interconnection of legal systems, financial processes, and developmental endeavours, all of which ultimately influence the issue of accessibility.
