Description
Every year, first-year Master in International Development and Studies (MINT) students undertake Applied Research Projects (ARPs) for which small groups of students are conducting policy-relevant research with policy and practice partner organisations, on issues relating to international development and international relations.
In this next Research Café, the Global Health Centre (GHC), in collaboration with the Global Health specialisation from the MINT Programme, is inviting two student groups to present the outcomes of their ARP to the Global Health community. Each ARP presentation will be followed by a Q&A session with the students. Join us at the FAB to discover more about their work!
Presentation 1: Understanding the Role of GFATM in the New Public Health Landscape of Africa
This project explores the evolving role of the Global Fund's Global Fight Against AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM) in Africa’s public health landscape, focusing on its alignment with regional entities. It examines GFATM’s strategic shifts, the impact of changing donor dynamics on health financing, and draws lessons from other Global Health Initiatives (GHIs). Through literature review and stakeholder interviews, the project highlights GFATM’s efforts in capacity building, innovative financing, and partnerships to strengthen health systems and improve public health outcomes across Africa.

In this project, the team analysed 325 Stop TB Partnership projects to map and classify social protection interventions and their effectiveness in combating TB. The report identifies target populations and aims to guide Stop TB and stakeholders on applying these interventions to reduce the impact of TB on individuals, families, and communities. It also includes graphic illustrations of the geographical distribution and target populations to inform future TB policies and programs.
