Description
Alternative Innovation Models for Pharmaceutical Innovation and Global Access to Medicines
As diseases continue to evolve and emerge, the need for innovative treatments that are not only effective but also affordable and available globally has never been more urgent. Ensuring access to these life-saving therapies is essential for reducing health disparities, improving quality of life, and advancing global health equity. However, the current mainstream market-driven model of pharmaceutical innovation is unfit for this purpose.
In this presentation, Iulia Slovenski and Suerie Moon will share some of the findings from their five-year SNSF research project on how initiatives have successfully delivered both innovation and access to medicines through alternative innovation models, and the challenges they have faced in doing so. Empirical examples encompass medicines for pandemics, neglected diseases, rare diseases and antibiotics.
