Elizabeth Odio Benito was Judge at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (2016-2021) and was appointed President of the court between 2020 and 2021. Previously, she was Judge at the International Criminal Court (2003-2012) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (1993-1998). She also served as the head of different ministries in her home country, Costa Rica, later becoming Second Vice-President of the Republic.
