This is a dedicated activity for the Graduate Institute’s and International Geneva communities in the context of the Geneva Democracy Week.
Participants will be welcomed by the Chancellery of State to the Hôtel de Ville, which hosts the political institutions of the Republic and Canton of Geneva. They will be able to interact with Marceau Schroeter, Swiss democracy specialist.
In addition to the visit of the premises, an interactive workshop with Mr. Schroeter will enable participants to discover and discuss objects, spaces and subjects of Swiss democracy. As the characters of Marceau Schroeter’s book “Au cœur de la démocratie suisse”, participants will follow through the processes leading to the voting of an initiative or a referendum. Vice-versa, the insights and questions of workshop participants will feed into the English version of that book.
Programme:
- 11:30: Welcome in the courtyard of the Hôtel-de-Ville
- 11:35: Visit of the Alabama room conducted by the Protocol of the State of Geneva
- 12:00: Workshop with Marceau Schroeter on the functioning of Swiss democracy
