Every year 8 million tonnes of plastic is dumped into the ocean, threatening wildlife, ecosystems and human livelihoods. Plastic pollution is becoming a large global environmental problem and a global governance response is needed. Eirik Lindebjerg, Global Plastics Policy Manager at WWF will take us through the fight for a global response to the plastic pollution crisis. He will present the global WWF strategy for driving international policy change on plastics and the prospects of a potential new agreement. What makes the plastics crisis different and can a new plastics agreement revitalize multilateral environmental governance?
