Connectivity plays a key role in ensuring an equal access to information, education, and job opportunities to young people in the world. Given their dual-use nature, digital technologies can simultaneously contribute to youth empowerment and discrimination. Youth-led social movements benefit from digital tools to coordinate actions and raise awareness. And yet, from echo chamber to cyber-bullying, the digital realm is not without risks. Digital skills and literacy, and youth participation in the design of the technologies they use, are crucial.
Since her election as Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Mrs Doreen Bogdan-Martin launched global initiatives on school connectivity, innovation, digital transformation and youth engagement, as well as an ITU-wide Youth Strategy. This conference will provide a space for dialogue about digital technologies and youth engagement.
Following her keynote lecture, Doreen Bogdan-Martin will be joined for a panel discussion with:
-
Louai Allani, Founder, SP3 Network
-
Carolina Earle, Research Assistant, EQUALS-EU
-
Moira Faul, Executive Director, Network for international policies and cooperation in education and training (NORRAG)
This event will be moderated by Jérôme Duberry, Managing Director of the Tech Hub at the Geneva Graduate Institute.
