In honour of the esteemed contribution of work by Naila Kabeer to the fields of international development and feminist economics.
The conversations in this event will be structured around central themes in Kabeer’s book from Reversed Realities (1994). Reversed Realities uncovers the deeply entrenched, hence barely visible, biases which underpin mainstream development theory and account for the marginal status given to women’s needs in development policy.
Welcome: Claire Somerville, Geneva Graduate Institute
Opening remarks: Caroline Dommen, International Association for Feminist Economics
Current challenges in relation to key themes in Reversed Realities: a conversation between Naila Kabeer and Magdalena Sepúlveda, Global Initiative for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (GI-ESCR)
Looking Forward: Positive Developments, a conversation between Naila Kabeer and Shahra Razavi, International Labour Organization, about ways forward from a feminist economic standpoint
Closing remarks: Francisco Cos-Montiel, United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD)
La table ronde sera traduite simultanément en français.
The event will be followed by drinks and informal conversation.
This event is organised jointly by the International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) and the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) in partnership with the Gender Centre.
