Recently the tech world was taken by storm by ChatGPT. Launched by OpenAI, ChatGPT is an artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot where the user may prompt questions, and it will respond with answers that sound like they were written by a human being. It has compiled terabytes of knowledge and learnt its writing skills from a wealth of data available online.
Nevertheless, as any AI-powered tool it comes with several caveats:
- AI systems can perpetuate and even amplify existing biases in society, leading to discrimination and unfair treatment of certain groups;
- the increasing use of AI in various industries may lead to job loss for certain workers;
- as AI systems become more advanced, there are concerns about the potential for accidents and misuse, as well as the need for proper regulation and oversight; and
- many AI systems are considered "black boxes" that are difficult to understand or interpret, making it hard to understand how they reach their decisions.
Bearing these issues in mind, This Q&A session will discuss how ChatGPT can impact the classroom and assessment.
