event description

How does ChatGPT work? What other AI research tools are there? What are the limitations of ChatGPT? What are the best practices?

The Tech Hub Digital Skills and Literacy workshops prepare students and researchers for the future by helping them develop the skills and critical thinking they need to navigate a rapidly changing technological environment.

Recently, ChatGPT has taken the tech world by storm. Created by OpenAI, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot where the user can ask questions and it responds with answers that sound like they were written by a human. It has amassed terabytes of knowledge and learned its writing skills from a wealth of data available online.

However, like any AI-powered tool, it comes with several caveats:

  1. AI systems can perpetuate and even amplify existing biases in society, leading to discrimination and unfair treatment of certain groups;
  2. The increasing use of AI in various industries may lead to the loss of jobs for certain workers;
  3. As AI systems become more advanced, there are concerns about the potential for accidents and misuse, as well as the need for proper regulation and oversight;
  4. Many AI systems are considered "black boxes" that are difficult to understand or interpret, making it difficult to understand how they make their decisions.

With these issues in mind, this workshop will explore how AI, and ChatGPT in particular, can impact the way we understand the production and consumption of knowledge, and the issues and controversies surrounding the use and misuse of ChatGPT.
