CBAM in Action: Lessons learned & Industry Perspectives

This event will provide a comprehensive overview of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which recently came into force, focusing on the experience and lessons learned to date. As CBAM moves forward, with payment obligations for imports commencing in 2026, we will explore the implications of the first two cycles of reporting embedded carbon emissions, and delve into the broader global landscape of carbon pricing and related border measures.

  • Insights into the first months of CBAM implementation from Vicente Hurtado Roa, Head of Unit, DG TAXUD, European Commission
  • Global approaches to pricing carbon emissions presented by Dr. Chantal-Line Carpentier, Chief, UNCTAD
  • Industry perspectives from Inès Van Lierde, Chair, AEGIS Europe 
  • A roundtable discussion with key industry and policy stakeholders


The roundtable will be moderated by Prof. Joost Pauwelyn (Geneva Graduate Institute) and will include perspectives from experts such as:

  • Adolfo Aiello, Deputy Director General, Climate and Energy, EUROFER
  • Dr. Chantal-Line Carpentier, Chief, UNCTAD
  • Aashish Chandorkar, Counsellor, Indian Mission to the WTO
  • Vicente Hurtado Roa, Head of Unit, DG TAXUD, European Commission
  • Benjamin Rake, Counsellor, UK Mission to the WTO
  • Canadian and/or Korean industry voice (TBC)


The event will conclude with remarks from Yves Melin & Hervé Jouanjean of Cassidy Levy Kent (Europe) SRL.
