This seminar will explore the various links that exist between trade policy and sustainable development. Specifically, it will focus on three different types of trade policy instruments: (i) trade preference schemes, and in particular the EU’s Generalized System of Preferences; (ii) product-specific sustainability standards; and (iii) policy space and sustainability clauses under free trade agreements. For each trade policy instrument, this seminar will provide a macro-level overview of if, and how, these instruments have been conducive towards establishing sustainable development in developing and least-developed countries.
Please register here by Tuesday 16 April as lunch is provided.
