What is the relevance today of the ideas on gift exchange in the debates on international solidarity, globalization and democratic governance?
By tracing the genealogy of the concept of gift exchange in the twentieth century, Grégoire Mallard's new book adds a building block to our comprehension of the role that anthropology, international law, and economics have played in shaping international economic governance from the age of European colonization to the latest European debt crisis. In this book launch, Prof. Mallard will discuss the lessons that can be learned for today's scholarship and political leadership.
