A number of bodies set up by human rights treaties stand at the heart of the international human rights protection system, charged with monitoring treaty implementation. How should their authority be thought of in the absence of a formal power to issue binding decisions?

Fuad Zarbiyev
Assistant Professor of International Law at the Graduate Institute, Fuad Zarbiyev was previously a Global Research Fellow at New York University School of Law and worked as a lawyer for Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP where he acted as counsel to a number of governments and state-owned companies before international tribunals. His research interests include translational law and governance, international legal theory, international judicial behaviour, investment arbitration and theory and practice of treaty interpretation.
