Philanthropic foundations -- and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) in particular -- are some of the most powerful voices in global health. As the world’s single largest private funder of the World Health Organization and a broad range of global health initiatives, the BMGF has brought significant resources to bear on the global response to Covid-19. However, alongside these resources arise questions regarding the appropriate roles of public and private actors, and where the division of responsibility and accountability should lie for addressing challenges of broad public concern. Join us for a frank conversation with Dr Chris Elias, President of the Global Development Division at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, to discuss what the experience with Covid-19 suggests about the role of foundations in the future of global health.
