Centre for Finance and Development

Welcome to the CFD's webpage.  The CFD is the Graduate Institute's center of excellence for research on finance and development.  The CFD was officially launched on 21 November 2012 with an inaugural lecture by Ricardo Hausmann of Harvard.

You can find out more on the CFD in the Institute's review, Globe.

Established thanks to the support of the Pictet Foundation for Development, the CFD's research deals with finance and development at three levels:

  • international finance, and development finance in particular, including the role played by the international financial institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank

  • financial development, including banking and financial sector development in emerging and developing countries, both from contemporary and historical perspectives

  • the microeconomics of finance and development

The CFD holds a bi-monthly Development Therapy seminar: see the Events section for upcoming presentations.
