Who we are
The Geneva Platform for Resilient Value Chains is a non-partisan, not-for-profit platform of excellence located within the Centre for Trade and Economic Integration at the Geneva Graduate Institute. Anchored in International Geneva’s spirit and in its trade, sustainability, mediation, and human rights expertise, the Platform focuses on supporting resilient and inclusive value chains that are vital to the energy transition and climate change: Solar PV, Wind, Critical Minerals, Batteries, Electric Vehicles, and Grids.
Who we work with
The GPRVC works directly and discretely with policymakers, businesses, and civil society stakeholders along clean energy and minerals supply chains. We have an established network of in-country partners and businesses to make targeted recommendations on local policy and manufacturing opportunities. We also engage profoundly with international institutions, from the Geneva and Paris-based economic development IOs to regional and global development finance institutions.
Our activities
The GPRVC is positioned to offer high-quality practical solutions and informed dialogue that bridge policy, industry, and civil society perspectives. Our work does not engage in normative statements but rather looks at the practical levers and angles that can be used to make key supply chains more resilient. The Platform provides three essential services:
- We host and facilitate confidential, pluri-stakeholder dialogues between businesses, policymakers, and civil society stakeholders to improve the resilience of critical value chains.
- We provide solutions-oriented, academic-quality research that is designed for practitioners and stakeholders that can take actions to address value chain stressors and opportunities.
- We educate and inform key stakeholders as well as international institutions in Geneva on geopolitical, market, and other supply chain risks, and practical ways to promote more resiliency across value chains.
Our work
At the GPRVC, we analyze and address the practical challenges at the intersection of climate ambition, industrial policy, and geopolitics. We focus on pressing questions such as:
- How can developing economies strategically integrate into global value chains for renewables, batteries, and EVs?
- What is the right balance between ambitious climate targets and local manufacturing ambitions in sectors like solar PV and electric vehicles?
- How can countries mitigate the risks of supply chain concentration and geopolitical tensions to ensure secure and affordable clean energy supply chains?
- Where should processing and manufacturing facilities for critical minerals and clean energy components be located, and how can investment be mobilized?
- How can international cooperation reduce regulatory fragmentation and unlock plurilateral opportunities for resilient value chains?
