Soon you will officially graduate from the Graduate Institute. We look forward to celebrating your achievement with you at a special ceremony in the company of your family and friends.

On this page you will find information about the programme, registration and all the practical information you need in before graduation day.

Date and location

 

The graduation ceremony for students who have successfully completed a master or PhD at the Institute in 2018-2019 will take place on:

Friday, 13 September 2019 

14:00 – 16:00 PhD and Disciplinary Masters' Diplomas

17:00 – 18:30 Interdisciplinary Masters' Diplomas

The ceremony will be held in the Ivan Pictet Auditorium at Maison de la paix in Geneva.

A cocktail reception will follow the ceremonies for graduates and their guests.
 

 

Programme

 

The official detailed programme for the graduation ceremony will be released in the summer.

Class group photographs will be taken the morning of Friday, 13 September, while ceremonies will be held in the afternoon, followed by a cocktail reception after each.


Group Photographs

Group photographs, per study programme, will be taken the morning of 13 September in Parc Barton, with a meeting point in Villa Barton. If it rains, the photos will be taken at Maison de la paix.  

Please note the schedule for the different group photographs:

  • 10:00 – Master in Anthropology and Sociology of Development
  • 10:15 – Master in International History
  • 10:30 – Master in International Law
  • 10:45 – Master in International Relations/Political Science
  • 11:00 – Master in International Economics
  • 11:15 – Master in International Affairs
  • 11:30 – Master in Development Studies


Graduation Ceremonies

The graduation ceremonies will be held in the Ivan Pictet Auditorium, followed by a cocktail after each ceremony:

  • 14:00 – 15:45 PhD and Disciplinary Masters' Diplomas
  • 17:00 – 18:30 Interdisciplinary Masters' Diplomas

Registration


Registration is now closed. All students and guests will need a ticket to access the Auditorium Ivan Pictet for the ceremony.

Tickets retrieval options will include:

 

At the reception in Petal 1 of Maison de la paix: 

  • From Monday, 9 September to Thursday, 12 September (9:00 to 17:00) 
  • On Friday, 13 September (9:00 to 13:00)

In front of Auditorium Ivan Pictet:

  • On Friday, 13 September, from 13:00 until the start of the ceremony

The ceremony will also be streamed live for family and friends unable to travel to Geneva.

Transport

We encourage you and your guests to come by public transport. Public (payable) parking is also available nearby (parking Séchéron).

 

Auditorium opening times and seating arrangements for guests and students

 

Seating for graduates

Graduating students should be present at the special entrance marked “Students” in front of Auditorium Ivan Pictet at:

  • 13:15 PhD and Disciplinary Masters' ceremony
  • 16:30 Interdisciplinary Masters' ceremony

Master and PhD students will be seated in the Auditorium according to study programme and then in alphabetical order. A seating chart will be available for students to consult.

Once students have received their diplomas and had their photos taken, they should return to their same seat. Students are requested to remain in the assigned seat for the entire ceremony.


Seating for guests

Guests will be able to sit behind the allocated student seating. 

Guests are requested to enter the Ivan Pictet Auditorium through the entrance marked “Guests”. The Auditorium will open for guests 45 minutes before the beginning of the first ceremony (13:15) and 30 minutes before the beginning of the second ceremony (16:30).

 

Dress code

The graduation is a formal ceremony celebrating your academic achievement. The Graduate Institute, being a truly international institution, has a tradition of celebrating its diversity by encouraging students to wear traditional dress from their home country or formal attire.

 

Web streaming

For graduating students and family and friends unable to travel to Geneva, the ceremony will be streamed live starting at 14:00 (Geneva time) on Friday, 13 September and the video will be available online afterwards.

 

Diplomas

For master students unable to attend the ceremony, their diplomas will be mailed to the address on file. Students should expect to receive their diplomas by the end of September. Please contact your master programme’s manager for any further queries.

 

Travel and Visa

Anyone traveling from abroad to attend the ceremony is responsible for obtaining required visas and for making their own accommodation and travel arrangements.

Accommodation

 

Pavilion Barton 

For family and friends of graduating students, discounted accommodation is available at Parc Bastion Pavilions, a picturesque location by the shore of Lake Geneva.

For the nights of 11-14 September, double rooms with a private bathroom are available at CHF 110 per night, single rooms with a private bathroom for CHF 90 per night, and single rooms with a shared bathroom for CHF 75 per night.

Restaurant

 

Graduating students willing to have lunch with their family and friends at Le Restaurant between 12:00 and 14:00 should book in advance either by email to lerestaurant.mdp@novae-restauration.ch or by phone (+41 22 908 4334).

Photos

 

Individual Photographs

Each graduate will be photographed by a professional photographer on stage as they receive their diploma.

The resulting photographs will be available to download for free online, within five working days following the graduation ceremony.

Photos at the Davis Lounge and Le Restaurant in Petal 5

The Davis Lounge, located opposite the Ivan Pictet Auditorium, will be available for students and their families to take photos just after the ceremonies.,

Le Restaurant will be open from 9:30 to 11:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00 for families wishing to take photos on the terrace with stunning views over the lake and the city.
