Women in Economics

This workshop is aimed at all PhD students and Postdocs in economics departments at IHEID, UniGe, UniL or EPFL.

Over the past years, there has been an increasing awareness that the numbers of women in the economics profession, in particular in academia, are not progressing as expected.  As a consequence, e.g. the Royal Economic Society or CEPR, have launched initiatives to identify and tackle the causes of under-representation. At the same time, there is a fast-growing body of research on the issue.

It is important for young economists to understand early on the potential obstacles that they may encounter in their further career. The workshop presents the current state of research on the role of and obstacles faced by women in the economics profession and aims to build a network of female economists in the region.

This workshop It is based on an initiative by Alice Antunes (UniL), Federica Braccioli (UniGe) and Laura Nowzohour (IHEID), supported and sponsored by Professor Beatrice Weder di Mauro. IHEID has an unusually high number of female faculty members in economics and they will also attend and support this workshop.
