More information about the speaker

Malaria constitutes one of the major killing infectious diseases in tropical Africa. A significant initiative to control malaria with the goal of its eventual eradication is currently under way. How does this compare with previous efforts to control and eradicate malaria in tropical Africa? What were the consequences of the earlier programs?
Professor Webb is the author of the recent book "Humanity's Burden: A Global History of Malaria" (New York: Cambridge University Press, 2009). He also published "The First Large-Scale Use of Synthetic Insecticides for Malaria Control in Tropical Africa" in the Journal of the History of Medicine and Allied Sciences. Advance e-publication, 07/10
