Data has surpassed oil as the world’s most valuable asset and is being weaponised to wage cultural and political warfare. People everywhere are in a battle for control of our most intimate personal details. From award-winning filmmakers Karim Amer and Jehane Noujaim, The Great Hack uncovers the dark world of data exploitation with access to the personal journeys of key players on different sides of the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook data scandal.

This film (2019, 114 minutes, in English) will be followed by a panel discussion with:

  • David Carroll, Film Protagonist and Associate Professor of Media Design, The New School, New York

  • Paul-Olivier Dehaye, Film protagonist, President, PersonalData.IO

  • Stéphane Duguin, Chief Executive Officer, CyberPeace Institute, Geneva

  • Shalini Randeria, Director of the Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy, the Graduate Institute, Geneva (moderator)

The screening is organised in partnership with the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH), which will take place from 6 to 15 March 2020, and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

““Data rights are human rights” is the rallying cry of this gripping, challenging documentary” – The Guardian

Entry is free, however seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
