This course provides an introduction to the study of social networks for advanced students. Networks analytically represent relations among entities. We will discuss how social networks are structured, how they change over time, and how they affect the entities they connect. The aim is to enable students to be discriminating consumers of literature employing network theory and methods as well as advanced users of network techniques in their own work. Practical exercises will be conducted in R. No prior knowledge of social networks or R is required, though basic statistical training is highly recommended.
