The International Law Department offers a host of opportunities to exchange ideas.
The International Law Colloquium is a platform to discuss international law scholarship. The presentations chosen for the colloquium reflect the diversity of topics of, and approaches to, international legal study. The colloquium offers an opportunity for in-depth engagement with ongoing research. Speakers include faculty members of the International Law Department as well as invited external speakers.
Moot Court Competitions are an excellent complement to the high-level programmes offered at the Graduate Institute, confronting students with challenging legal problems. Every year the Institute participates in several international Moot Court competitions.
Master students can join the Institute's team as participants while interested PhD students can act as coaches. The selection procedure takes place in late September.

In 2018, the Graduate Institute won the first prize in the 2018 ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO Law, and in 2019, the students won second place in the First European Regional Round, as well as third place for the Respondent’s Memorial and Oral Pleadings segment of the Telders Moot Court Competition. This year, the IHEID équippe won second place in the Concours Charles Rousseau and the title of best litigant for one of the students participating. The closing ceremony of ELSA’s John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on WTO Law found the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies among the top 4 teams in the world!
