This course is an advanced research seminar on topics surrounding environmental cooperation and governance across the local, national and global levels. We take an inter-diciplinary approach to examine the history and politics of environmental movements and governance approaches. Topics include the history of science, environmental movements and international collaboration; creation and effectiveness of international environmental regimes; and the the emergence of private and hybrid systems of governance. As advanced research seminar, the course offers an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of relevant and contested issues via extensive reading and discussion, as well as through original research and presentation.
