Unpacking geopolitics and international development after COVID’s 'first wave'

Dear Alumnae,
Dear Alumni,

We hope you and yours are safe and healthy.

Although the physical ties to each other have been suspended for the sake of the health and safety of all, we remain committed to keeping the alumni community connected and thriving. We are hopeful that the situation will ameliorate soon and we will be able to see some of you in person at the Annual Alumni Reunion on 12 September 2020.

In the meantime, the Graduate Institute’s students, faculty and staff are staying at home to help stop the spread of CoVID-19. However our professors are continuing to share their knowledge and expertise on the subject, most recently through the launch of a new series of pocket lectures titled “What do you know”, in partnership with Heidi.news.

For the videoreunion, both Philippe Burrin, Director of the Graduate Institute, and Professor Vinh-Kim Nguyen, co-Director of the Graduate Institute’s Global Health Centre, Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology and emergency doctor who has working at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal during the pandemic, will be present. Dr. Nguyen received the Aurore award from the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council in 2007.

After presenting his topic, Professor Nguyen will remain for a 30-minute Q&A session. The Q&A will be followed by an informal chat with our Director who will discuss how the Institute is continuing its academic programmes online, the measures in place to assist our community, as well as give an overview of his directorship and his future plans.

We look forward to seeing you, virtually, for this unique event.

Best regards,
