From 2009 to 2011, Mr Campa was Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, Ministry of Economy and Finance in Spain. From 1991 to 2001 he was Associate Professor of Economics and International Business at Stern School of Business, New York University. During 1999 he was Research Associate at the Center for Economic Policy Research. From 1996 to 2004, he was Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Between 1994 and 2006, he was a consultant for the European Commission, the Bank of Spain, the Basel Bank for International Settlements, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Interamerican Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
