Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of premature death globally. With their inclusion in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the recently announced UN Decade of Action on Nutrition, a window of opportunity for change is emerging. However, addressing NCDs also requires strong local health systems, access to effective and affordable treatment, intersectorial action, and responsible practices of private sector actors.

  • How can the framing of NCDs foster political support for action?

  • What are the challenges in translating global action to the local level?

  • How can states and organisations manage the conflicts of interest linked to NCDs?

  • What are the opportunities linked to the UN High-level Meeting on NCDs in 2018?
