Junior Diplomat Initiative Switzerland invites you to the first seminar of the spring semester with Patricia O’Brien, the Permanent Representative of Ireland to the UN at Geneva.

The interactive seminar will focus on the relationship between cotemporary diplomatic practice and the dynamic development of international law.

Before coming to Geneva Ambassador O’Brien served as the UN Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and the UN Legal Counsel from 2008 to 2013. The objective of her office was to provide unified central legal service on questions of international and national, public and private law, including international public and trade law. Ambassador O’Brien prepared the transmittal of the Palestinian application for UN membership to the Security Council. She is perceived as one of the top experts on the concept Responsibility to Protect (R2P). Further, in 2011 Forbes Magazine selected her as one of the 10 Most Powerful Women at the United Nations.

Registration for this event is necessary and is based on “first come-first serve” basis. If interested, please send an email to jdi@mygisa.ch and include your full name and study programme.

The event is organised by the Junior Diplomat Initiative Switzerland, created and run by Graduate Institute students.
