Arjun Appadurai is the Paulette Goddard Professor of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University and an Honorary Professor at Erasmus University, Holland.

He is the author of numerous books and essays on media, globalisation, and India, including The Future as Cultural Fact: Essays on the Global Condition (Verso, 2013). His latest book, Banking on Promises: The Failure of Language in the Age of Derivative Finance, will be published by the University of Chicago Press in early 2016.
