Auditorium Ivan Pictet
Maison de la Paix, Geneva

The Geneva Challenge invites teams of graduate students from around the world to devise solutions to major international development problems. This year, the challenge is to propose how urban lives can be improved, strengthening social and economic development. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, Deputy Executive Director and Assistant Secretary General of UN-HABITAT, will give a keynote speech before presenting the 2016 Geneva Challenge awards.

Aisa Kirabo Kacyira
From 2006 to 2011, Dr. Kacyira was Mayor of Kigali, Rwanda, one of the fastest urbanising cities in the world. In recognition of the city’s high level of cleanliness, greenness, safety and sustainable, affordable housing initiatives combined with pro-poor urban employment opportunities, Kigali won the UN-HABITAT Scroll of Honour Award in 2008.

From 14:00 to 16:30 on November 15, there will be a showcase of the three Geneva Challenge finalist projects, tackling disaster risk reduction, waste management and food security.
