Dr Kummer Peiry is a specialist in international environmental law and policy with an impressive academic track record. She has over 20 years experience in international negotiations. She took up her current post in April 2012 and was previously the Executive Secretary of the Basel Convention, a global treaty on the trans-boundary movement and management of hazardous wastes, for nearly five years. She is currently a Visiting Fellow at the University of South Wales and was a lecturer of international environmental law at the University of Bern for eight years. Dr Kummer Peiry served in the International Affairs Division of the Swiss Federal Environmental Agency and subsequently as Head of Section on Environmental Issues in the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1999. She holds a PhD in International Law from the University of London. In addition to consulting, she has authored and contributed to numerous academic publications on international environmental law, international chemicals and waste management and other environmental issues.
