The Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights has published a Briefing on the Arms Trade Treaty adopted by the UN General Assembly this past April. New Publication | International Law by Jan Klabbers

Visiting Professor Jan Klabbers has published a new book entitled International Law with Cambridge University Press. The textbook has been hailed as offering a refreshingly clear presentation of the field. It also places law in context by adressing the dynamic system in which it is embedded. Based in the University of Helsinki, Professor Klabbers is visiting the Graduate Institute for the Spring term 2013 and is teaching the Law of Treaties and the Law of International Organizations.

On 26 March 2013, Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, participated in a discussion based on his recent memoir "Interventions: A Life in War and Peace" organised by the Graduate Institute and the University of Geneva with the support of the Kofi Annan Foundation. ELSA WTO Moot Court Competition | Graduate Insitute Team Advances to World Rounds

Our team placed 2nd in the European Regional Rounds of the ELSA WTO Moot Court Competition, thereby qualifying for the World Oral Round to be held in Geneva this coming May. The team, consisting of Marina Mittelbach, Natsumi Oka, Anastasia Smirnova and Nicolas Zahn, have continued the successful legacy of the Graduate Institute in the WTO Moot Court Competition. It is the fifth consecutive year that an IHEID team has qualified for the World Oral Round. Their dedicated coaches - and last year's World Champions - are Liesbeth Casier and Stephanie Cunningham. Coungratulations!
New Publication | Privatizing War

Prof Vincent Chetail, currently on academic leave at Harvard University, has published a volume on private military and security companies under public international law with Lindsey Cameron. Jessup Competition | Graduate Institute Team wins Swiss National Rounds

The team from the Graduate Institute won the Swiss National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition held in Geneva on 23 February 2013. The Jessup Competition simulates a case before the International Court of Justice in both its written and oral phases. Our team members are Cindy Helfer, Seira Yun, Alexandre Maltais and Matthew Seet. Their coaches are Arianna Whelan, Tee Wongkaew and Kendra Magraw. They will travel to Washington to compete in the International Rounds on early April. Coungratulations!
MIDS Lecture | Judge Bernardo Sepúlveda

Yesterday, Judge Bernardo Sepúlveda delivered the Annual MIDS Lecture entitled "Latin America in the ICJ: Recent Cases" in the context of the Geneva Master in International Dispute Settlement. Judge Sepúlveda is the current Vice-President of the International Court of Justice. The MIDS is a specialized joint programme of The Graudate Institute and the University of Geneva. New Publication | The Draft Arms Trade Treaty

A briefing on the Draft Arms Trade Treaty has been published by the Geneva Academy of International and Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. The document contains a helpful introductory discussion of the preliminary negotiations, followed by article-by-article commentary of core provisions. New Publication | Diplomatic and Judicial Means of Dispute Settlement

This new volume, co-edited by Profs L. Boisson de Chazournes, M. Kohen and J. Viñuales examines the oft-neglected interaction between diplomatic and judicial means of dispute settlement. The book is the result of joint collaboration between the American Society of International Law, the European Society of International Law, and the Latin American Society of International Law with the support of the Swiss Directorate of Public International Law. Contributors include former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, ICJ Vice-President Bernardo Sepúlveda Amor, Prof Pierre-Marie Dupuy and Prof Georges Abi-Saab, Emeritus Professors of International Law at The Graduate Institute. New Programme | LL.M. in International Law

The International Law Department has launched an LL.M. in International Law beginning on September 2013. The LL.M. will provide advanced, comprehensive and practical training in international law to a select group of legal scholars from a diverse variety of backgrounds and traditions.
