Computer rooms and WiFiComputer rooms for students are situated at basement level at rue Rothschild, in the Voie-Creuse Library and in Room 39 at the Rigot pavilion. Villa Barton, the ground floor at rue Rothschild and the Library are all equipped with WiFi. By using the computer facilities, students agree to the terms and conditions of their use.
Printing documentsUse of IT resources is free. However, a fee will be charged for printing. Each student is allocated a free quota per semester (500 free printouts for Master students; 2,000 for PhD candidates). At the end of the semester, pages over and above the allocated quota will be charged for at a rate of 10 centimes per page. Invoices are sent to the student’s local mailing addresses; they can be settled using the payment slip provided or electronically through the Institute's website (using Klik&Pay). The unused semester quota for the semester cannot be carried over and is lost.
Purchasing computersThe Institute is pleased to announce that it is participating in the Poseidon and Neptun initiatives whose mission is to facilitate the use of portable computers in higher education in Switzerland. Further more, discounted Apple workstations can be ordered from the Education Apple Store site.
The project Poseidon offers a wide range of portable computers at discount prices, year-round. All computers come with a 3-year guarantee. More information is available in the Poseidon pour les Nuls brochure (French) or on the website at http://www.projet-poseidon.ch To see what Poseidon has to offer, click on the “Laptops” tab on the website. To order a computer, click on the “Laptops” tab; in the right-hand column select “Purchase”. Choose the site of the manufacturer that interests you. Do not select the “Apple Poseidon purchasing site” (see the Neptun project, below). Once on the selected site, you will see a list of suppliers. Once you have made your choice, you will automatically be directed to the supplier’s site. Follow the different stages for ordering and creating an account. To create an account you will need to enter your Institute email address with the @graduateinstitute.ch suffix. For advice on your choice of computer, please send an email to poseidon@graduateinstitute.ch.
At the start of each semester, the Neptun project makes available a range of portable computers at discount prices for a limited period. Next sales window: 11 February - 4 March 2013 To see what Neptun has to offer, go to the site http://www.projektneptun.ch (in German). To order a Mac computer, go to the site https://store.ethz.ch/ (in German and French). Select that model you would like and click on “Acheter. When asked to complete the step “Validation d’utilisateur Neptun”, go to the link in the section “Pour toutes les autres institutions (sans access Switch AAI)”, at the bottom of the page. Click on “Continuez”. Complete all the fields on the form; insert IHEID in the “Université / Institution field. Insert your @graduateinstitute.ch email address and click on “Continuer”. You will be able to consult the contents of your basket and continue the purchasing process. IT Resources at UniGEAll students registered with the University of Geneva are given a university IT account (hereafter “UniGE account”) and email address. These accounts and email addresses are separate from those provided by the Institute. The UniGE account comes with software which can be installed on personal computers and replicates the local network of the University (VPN client, visit http://www.unige.ch/infoetu/ There is no free print quota allocation.
