Palestinian Public PERCEPTIONS - REPORT X - November 2006 [pdf]

His study is the tenth report carried out by the Palestine Research Unit of the Institute since the outbreak of the second Intifada in September 2000 on the impact of local and international aid on the living conditions of the civilian population in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (oPt). The period under scrutiny in this report covers the six months prior to May 2006.

The aim of Palestinian Public Perceptions reports (PPP) reports and studies is to provide the various UN agencies, international and local organisations, and the Palestinian Authority with timely and reliable information relevant to their work, with the purpose of helping them better understand the views and concerns of the Palestinian public on issues pertaining to assistance, impact and needs.

The Institute subcontracted the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) to conduct the survey in May 2006. One hundred fieldworkers interviewed eighteen-hundred people under the supervision of PCBS senior staff. We are particularly grateful to PCBS’s Palestinian fieldworkers, coders and data-entry personnel, whose dedication and work under difficult and sometimes stressful conditions, made this study possible.

Data cleaning, documentation and preparation of the database with the results of the poll have been conducted by the team of Datadoxa in Geneva (www.datadoxa.ch). Their work provided the authors based between Jerusalem, Beirut, Amman, Brussels and Geneva with the data and cross-tabulations used to compile the analysis presented in the present report. It is worth reiterating that the Perceptions Reports produce not only a report but also a database that can be openly accessed by those who are interested in the ten polls conducted so far by the PRU (for details see www.iuedpolls.org).
