It explores major global public health policies and programmes related to infectious diseases including pandemics, HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria, and non-communicable diseases. It concludes with a series of modules on Global Health Diplomacy –presenting the key issues, actors, instruments and fora in recent and current global health negotiations and topics such as foreign policy and health and global health governance. The course is designed to be interactive combining lectures, group work and student presentations. It should enable the participant to: 1) write and present short policy briefs on key issues related to selected topics in the course; 2) engage with colleagues across sectors- within national governments, bilateral development partners, international organizations such as WHO, WTO, UNDP, World Bank and with international NGOs- in a dialogue on the implications for public health of specific risks and challenges and opportunities of globalization, and on advancing the public health agenda on the broader trade, macroeconomic and development agendas.
