Auditorium Ivan Pictet
Maison de la paix, Geneva

The Graduate Institute's Centre for Finance and Development and the World Bank Group Geneva have launched a series of events on Financing for Development in Action.

In the second event, we will discuss the challenges that Low Income Countries (LICs) face in the new global economy, and the need for innovative approaches to development and its financing.

For this multi-stakeholder discussion, we have the pleasure to announce the participation of:

  • Axel van Trotsenburg, World Bank Vice President of Development Finance, will discuss the results of the recently completed International Development Association (IDA) replenishment, and analyse the use of IDA resources in general and, in particular, how to induce private sector funding as a mechanism for leveraging concessional finance for LICs;
  • Marie-Ange Saraka-Yao, Managing Director, Resource Mobilisation and Private Sector Partnerships at the GAVI Alliance, will reflect on how GAVI has pursued innovations in delivery, development and financing to increase equitable use of vaccines in LICs and its potential lessons for overall development finance;
  • Melchior de Muralt, Managing Partner of de Pury Pictet Turrettini & Co. Ltd and Vice-President and member of the Board of Directors of Blue Orchard Finance S.A., will discuss the opportunities and challenges impact investors face in successfully investing in LICs;
  • Ewen Macleod, Head of the Policy Development and Evaluation Service, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), will discuss the challenges that protracted crises pose to aid and development agencies and how new financial initiatives and collaboration can help improve the lives of refugees;
  • Moderator: Nadia Isler, Director, SDG Lab, Sustainable Development Goals Office of the Director-General, United Nations Office at Geneva

Entrance is free, but registration is required.

We look forward to welcoming you to Maison de la Paix.
