Career Opportunities

Completing a Master or PhD programme at the Graduate Institute opens up a whole range of future career and academic opportunities in the public and private sectors alike. For many of our younger graduates, completion of their study programme is the first step towards a long and successful professional life. For mid-career professionals who have chosen to further their academic studies, it can offer an opportunity to consolidate knowledge acquired thus far and a chance to resume their careers in a stronger and more informed position. Finally, for others it can signal a career change.

Some of our graduates go on to careers in academia or research, while others pursue a future in diplomacy or the civil service with many playing a role in the international arena. Several of our graduates also join international and non-governmental organisations in Geneva or further afield.

In addition to the public sector, an education gained at the Graduate Institute also prepares graduates for a future in the private sector including multinational companies engaged in fields such as banking and finance, consulting or consumer goods [1][2], and headhunting.

Other graduates go on to work in journalism and the media as well as communications and public relations.

Some graduates combine several of these activities in the course of their careers.

Upon completion of their study programmes our students pursue their careers all over the globe.
