Agreements signed with 26 universities worldwide, enable students enrolled in our Masters and PhD study programmes to study abroad at one of our partner institutions, such as Yale University or the University of Ghana. During their time abroad students gain credits towards their study programmes at the Institute. This unique cultural and educational experience further enhances the international profile of our students and in many cases provides them with the opportunity to learn (or improve) a foreign language (see testimonials). Exchange programme participants explore a new university environment, in renowned institutions; they attend courses complementary to those offered at the Institute, and in some cases, conduct research (field work or access resources relevant to their dissertations or theses).
During the 2013-2114 academic year, 43 students participated in the exchange programme, in 19 institutions.
How it works
- Master students can apply to the exchange programme during the second semester of their study programme with the exchange taking place during the third semester.
- PhD students can apply to take part in the exchange programme for 1 or 2 semesters further to the successful defence of their preliminary thesis dissertation.
- While on exchange, students continue to pay tuition fees to the Graduate Institute and are exempted from the payment of tuition fees in their host institutions.
Full details of the exchange programme application procedure are available on the student portal.
A number of scholarship opportunities are available to PhD students who wish to carry out research abroad. See our student portal for more details.
