Gender and International Relations

RI-SP025 | Autumn | 6 ECTS

Emerging from a theoretical and methodological critique of the field of International Relations (IR), feminist IR today encompasses a range of research programs that both mirror and exceed the IR mainstream. The purpose of this seminar is to (a) provide an introduction to feminist theoretical and methodological critiques of the field; and (b) review major currents of research in feminist IR through an examination of cutting-edge contemporary literature. The course is anchored in seminar discussions and supplemented by lectures, including through an international link-up with a parallel course at the Freie Universität Berlin (Prof. Çaglar). At the end of the course, students will be familiar with feminist critiques and research in IR, able to apply these critiques and develop research questions embedded in the main currents of the literature.
