Trade and Development

Julia Cajal-Grossi

MINT002 | Autumn | 6 ECTS

This module will study the links between international trade and development. The course is organized in two parts. For the first weeks, lectures will offer an overview of the theories of trade, understanding the mechanics behind the models and the predictions that stem from them. The second part of the course is organized around key debates in trade and development, in particular, whether trade induces growth, alleviates poverty, improves workers'€™ conditions, increases firms'€™ productivity, fosters technical change and quality upgrading and / or improves business practices in developing countries. Each of these debates will be led by a group of students and this comprises the most important element of the assessment of this course.
