DE138 | Autumn | 6 ECTS

What is "development"? How do we understand what development does? The primary goal of this course is to give future development practitioners the conceptual and practical tools to analyse and critically engage development intervention. This course will examine the historical trajectory of development both as a constellation of ideas and as a set of practices. We will first explores the roots of development thought in classical social theories before turning to how these informed development concepts starting in the 1960s. We will then turn to ethnographic case studies of development interventions, and how these have led-us to re-thinking development today.
