Work, Labour, Practice
ANSO045 | Autumn | 6 ECTS
In-between working less and the prospect of a jobless future, and with the advent of the ‘sharing economy’ and increased automation, this seminar explores the challenges and opportunities of labor in the 21st century. In a world of growing precariousness and indebtedness, the problem of work has become paramount to life in contemporary societies. This seminar examines the multiplicity of contemporary labour regimes by problematizing the cross-cultural meaning of work as practice and productive action. Readings attend to a renewed anthropological and multidisciplinary engagement with work, and the effects of precariousness, inequality or affect in modern, Fordist, and post-industrial economies.
