On 21-22 January 2016, Georgetown University's Institute of International Economic Law hosted the inaugural interdisciplinary Sovereign Debt Research and Management Conference (“DebtCon1”). The annual conference was organised by Professors Anna Gelpern of Georgetown Law and Mitu Gulati of Duke Law, and brought together global law and social science scholars, practitioners and policy makers. The conference featured cutting-edge scholarship from global scholars, and was geared towards informing debt policy and market practice, as well as shaping policy-relevant research.

On 4-5-6 October 2017, the Graduate Institute’s Centre for Finance and Development will host DebtCon2, the Second Interdisciplinary Sovereign Debt Research and Management Conference. The event is going to be jointly organised with Georgetown University Law Centre and with the University of Geneva's Department of History, Economy and Society. The conference is going to take place at the Graduate Institute, Geneva, at Maison de la Paix on 5-6 October 2017, with a pre-conference event on 4 October 2017.
