The Graduate Institute has full status as an approved degree-granting institution (university-level) by the Swiss Agency for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (AAQ) under our French name, Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement (IHEID).
We are quality certified by the Swiss Certification Label for continuing education, Eduqua.
Limited on-campus accommodation is available at the Villa Barton Pavillions. The Pavillions provide a simple private room and shower and are available on a first-come first-served basis for those who apply early. Please enquire with the Programme Officer in charge of your programme.
Alumni from our Executive Education degree programmes are recognized as alumni of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and earn most of the same benefits as alumni of traditional master's and PhD programmes. These include:

Participants in non-degree granting short courses are not considered alumni and do not receive the same benefits as alumni of our Executive Certificate and Masters degree programmes.
Applications are typically accepted on a rolling basis until the class is filled. Please refer to the programme pages and ask the Programme Officer in charge.
Class size varies from programme to programme, however they typically range from 15-25 participants. Classes are intentionally kept small to promote maximum interaction of participants and to ensure participants receive personalised, tailored coaching.
Our Executive Education Degree programmes earn European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits in the Swiss higher education system. We offer both Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) and Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) degrees. These degree programmes are relevant at various stages of one's career, as a post-bachelor's or a post-master's (with relevant experience) or as a post-doctorate programme. These are internationally recognised credentials, earning credits under the ECTS as well as alumni status at the Institute. Please note that CAS and MAS degrees cannot be counted as academic degree requirements needed for PhD applications.
While our non-degree short-course programmes do not specifically lead to a degree, depending on the level of the programme, a transcript of results can also be delivered resulting in university-level credits (European Credits Transfer System - ECTS).

Eating out in Geneva can be expensive. Alternative options:

Each programme has specific eligibility requirements, please refer to the programme pages and/or ask the Programme Officer in charge of the programme you are interested in with any questions. In general, we take into consideration all motivated individuals with relevant past work experience and a professional interest or aspiration related to international and public affairs, whether currently in employment or seeking new opportunities. Participants across our programmes have a range of experience, including recent post-graduates with high-potential, early and mid-stage professionals and senior executives with personal and professional interest and in world affairs.
The Graduate Institute is not able to provide scholarships for Executive Education programme particants. We are happy to send letters of recommendation directly to any third-parties whom you are seeking funding or scholarship support, upon request.
Payments for programmes can be made in installments throughout the programme without incurring any additional costs, please liaise with the Program Officer for more information.
While the Graduate Institute is a bi-lingual instute (English and French), most courses are delivered in English, however a few of our programmes are delivered exclusively in French. Please refer to the programme pages and/or ask the Programme Officer in charge. We do not have formal requirement for proof of language compentency tests, but we do expect applicants to be able to fully participate in classes in the language of the programme.

In order to guarantee the quality of our executive courses, we systematically undertake assessments of all parts of our operations and use effective procedures and indicators to ensure regular follow-up and improvement.
Tuition fees include teaching costs, supporting academic materials, coffee breaks and use of the Graduate Institute facilities, including the library at Maison de la Paix. Fees typically exclude individual travel, accommodation and food expenses, including those related to study trips.

Geneva resident rebate
If you are a Geneva resident tax payer, you may be entitled to a "Chèque formation", a Canton subsidy for continued education-please see this webpage for more information.
Most of our courses feature a mix of lectures, interactive workshops, small group real-world sessions, seminars with practitioners, research and interactive case-study discussions. Web-based e-learning platforms are also used in some courses between face-to-face sessions.
For those who need a Swiss (Schengen) visa it is recommended to apply for admission early.
Please liaise with the Programme Officer for the course you are interested in to discuss visa requirements further.
Motivations for taking our courses can vary tremendously. Many participants attend to attain expert knowledge and skills that they can take back to their workplace. We have participants each year who use our programmes to re-sharpen their skills during career transitions, for career advancement in their workplace or to change career direction entirely.
