Izabella Majcher is a Research Assistant at the Global Detention Project and a Ph.D. Candidate in International Law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Geneva). Within the GDP, she is responsible for assessing the universal and regional legal framework relevant to migration-related detention. She also carries out research on domestic legal and policy-related aspects of detention of migrants. Izabella previously volunteered with ELISA, a Geneva-based NGO offering legal aid to asylum seekers.

Besides human rights of migrants, Izabella’s areas of interest cover also women’s and children’s rights. She previously did internship and research with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Treaty Branch at the secretariat of the Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) at the Gender and Rights Unit as well as voluntary work with Fundación Jovenes para el Futuro, an association assisting underprivileged children in Ecuador.
