Training Tools

 

The GHP develops standardised training materials for capacity building in global health diplomacy which support and complement the courses. It has piloted its courses on global health diplomacy in a variety of contexts and is developing these materials based on accumulated experiences in Geneva and worldwide.

 

Global Health Diplomacy Book Series

The book series presents a series of scholary writings to provide a possible focus for future education, training, research, and service in global health diplomacy for the 21st Century. This book series is being published by World Scientific. The two first volumes has been published in December 2011.

 

  • Vol.1

"Innovative Health Partnerships - The Diplomacy of Diversity" edited by Daniel Low-Beer.  This volume assesses the range of innovative partnerships which are now near the heart of health diplomacy. It then describes the negotiations to integrate new players into development, which has changed health governance at global and country level. For more information, please click here.

“Negotiating and Navigating Global Health: Case Studies in Global Health Diplomacy” co-edited by Prof. Ilona Kickbusch and Ellen Rosskam. It features 18 case studies written by experienced negotiators on a variety of health-related negotiations. For more information, please click here.

 
  • Vol.3

Twenty-first Century Health Diplomacy” is being co-edited by Prof. Ilona Kickbusch, Prof. Thomas Novotny and Dr. Harley Feldbaum. The book introduces readers to the theoretical background, concepts and issues in global health diplomacy. It will be published by World Scientific publishers and is forthcoming in 2012.

  • Textbook in Global Health Diplomacy

The Textbook in Global Health Diplomacy complements activities in capacity building and serves as a guidebook for in depth learning on key issues in global health. It attempts to balance conceptual and practical approaches and build a bridge between public health experts and diplomats as well as the many other actors in global health diplomacy. The textbook provides in-depth readings for participants on a variety of topics covered in the training courses. Each chapter includes specific learning tools to help readers understand the content (i.e. learning boxes, questions, further reading, glossary terms, etc.). It will be published by Springer, New York in 2012.

 
  • Training Manual in Global Health Diplomacy

The Training Manual in Global Health Diplomacy aims to guide persons with prior professional experience in international relations or public health to run global health diplomacy courses. It provides the background, structure, and curriculum needed to teach a course on GHD, but also provides facilitation notes for training of trainers. It introduces a 10 module structure allowing to adapt the contents to the different contextual needs. It includes a methodology toolkit, sample presentations, glossary, discussion questions, exercises as well as handouts. The Manual will be published in 2012.

 
  • Working Papers Series in Global Health Diplomacy

  • Dictionary of Terminology

A Dictionary of Terminology used in global health negotiations is being compiled by the GHP as a working tool for health negotiators. It includes around 250 full entries. The Dictionary will be made available online in 2012.

 
  • Publications
