Executive Education
Executive education in global health diplomacy aims to bring together diplomatic and health professionals to understand their common interests in health as a foreign policy issue. The participants in global health diplomacy capacity building engage in a multidisciplinary learning process where they:
The targeted audience includes decision makers and representatives from governments, international organisations, global health initiatives and other stakeholders in global governance for health, such as civil society, foundations, private sector, platforms and alliances. The executive courses on global health diplomacy are usually implemented in form of a five-day course providing a basic introduction to GHD, its dynamics and major negotiations. The GHP also implements specialised courses offering more in-depth knowledge and learning opportunity on an identified topic. Click here for more information about the specialised courses. The programme developed and conceptualised global health diplomacy as a new field of global health action and developed an approach of executive courses which were implemented in various locations. Its flagship course has been always held annually in Geneva in collaboration with the Institute’s Executive Education. Further face-to-face trainings in Washington, Ottawa, Nairobi, Beijing, and Jakarta have reinforced this strategic programme focus and have confirmed the need to respond to a changing environment with new expertise and skills for both, health experts as well as foreign affairs professionals. More than 200 policy makers and health professionals have been reached through this effort.
